Bethany’s Family Night at the Shark Tank is Sold Out!
We’ve sold all the tickets for Bethany’s Family Night at the Shark Tank when the San Jose Sharks attack the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, March 24. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. If you have not yet paid, contact Pilar Buckley to make payment arrangements. Please make checks payable to “Bethany Lutheran Church” with an annotation “Sharks Family Night 2012.” Pilar and Pastor Jon will be in touch with those attending to plan car pools and seat assignments for this exciting night.

Ready for some springtime fun? Join us for dinner, a ping-pong tournament, and a variety of games on Friday, April 20. We’ll be in the Family Center from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. RSVP info and more details coming soon.

Youth Group Goes Hi-Tech on February 20th
On Monday, February 20 (Presidents’ Day Holiday), the Bethany Youth are invited to a day of fun and exploration at the San Jose Tech Museum. Plan for a great day at the San Jose Tech Museum. We are planning to leave from Bethany’s upper parking lot at 10:00 a.m. and return by 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00, which includes the price of admission and a bag lunch. We will also have several options to view an IMAX movie. There is a small food court on site for additional purchases. Please RSVP to Pilar as soon as possible so we can secure the discounted group rate.

November 2011
By the time you are reading this, the youth will have met to carve pumpkins, preparing for Halloween. That evening, we will once again be handing out goodies at the corner of Cloud and Avy, where we see 300-400 children each year. If you would like to come help and/or hang out, we always enjoy the company. It is a wonderful way to meet people in our community and see all the children in costume.
In March we will be attending a San Jose Sharks game for the second year in a row. Thanks for Mark Muenchow for arranging the tickets. We will also be doing our Gingerbread House fundraiser for the 3rd year in a row. It is lots of work to prepare for the day, but the children have a wonderful time creating Gingerbread houses for Christmas.
October 2011
The Junior High (or is that Middle School?) youth met on Saturday, September 25th for an afternoon of food and fun. We made plans for some events in the future, ate a hearty meal prepared by Pilar and finished with some favorite games. The picture shows a tame first run of Zoom Ball without the Duck tape, but next time, we will be sure to have a roll, and some taped up participants.

Family Event to attend Stanford vs. Washington Women’s Volleyball game. This is a Junior & High School Event and we encourage parents to attend. We will meet in the church parking lot and caravan to Stanford University, game time is 7pm.

Bethany’s Annual Ginger Bread House Making Fundraiser. More details to follow. This is fun and rewarding event.

First pitch at 6 pm
Take your family and friends out to the ballgame! Join us for food and fun as we watch Stanford battle University of Washington in what’s sure to be an exciting game. It’s a great way to enjoy a Friday night for only $10 per person. Cost includes admission to the game (general lawn seating) plus a tailgate party.

The initial idea was prompted by one member’s love of a sport many had never witnessed. Mark Muenchow recommended a Sharks game for the junior high group, which later encompassed the high school group, visitors, friends and families. Now, I had never been to a hockey game before, but I am sure it was a lot more fun with 30 people from Bethany than it would have been by myself! We had a good time, even though we could have used a boat to get out in the torrential downpour that evening.
While the hockey game may not be that newsworthy, the process is very newsworthy. One person decided to share his passion, worked on the logistics for the game, and helped us do an event we have never done before. We will probably go again, only this time we will open it up to families early in the process.
What do you like to do? Would you be willing to lead an event by getting the information and working with our staff? If you have an idea and want to do something with a larger group, we are here to help, but we do need people, even old hockey players, to say not only this could be fun, but here is how I will help!

Junior Youth Lunch: Time for the Junior Youth, along with family and friends, to get together for lunch, games, and of course to talk about future events!

High School Youth Group fires up the stoves for an Omelet Bar at the Youth Group Fundraiser Breakfast! After the kitchen is cleaned up, we'll head out to bowl a few strikes or see to a movie.
November 7
High School Youth event is in the work for a trip to either the Tech Museum in San Jose or Pier 39 in SF. Can't wait to hear what the kids choose!
December 4
The Youth Groups will be up to their elbows in frosting and decorations as they welcome family and friends, kids and kids-at-heart to the 2010 Gingerbread House Event. Mark your calendar now because space is limited!

Our prayers go with our Youth Group as they travel to the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans. We wish them a safe journey, an amazing time, and an incredible experience.

The Youth will be holding only one more breakfast fundraiser! Mark your calendars for the final event on Sunday, June 13. On the Saturday before the breakfast, the Youth Groups will enjoy a Bible Study and each other’s company as they prepare for the next day’s event. The Bible Study and prep time will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12. Please contact Pilar Buckley with any questions.

On the Saturday before each breakfast, the Youth Groups will enjoy a Bible Study and each other’s company as they prepare for the next day’s event. During the next few months, the Senior High youth will continue to be focused on activities that will help fund the National LCMS Youth Gathering trip. There will be a number of fundraising activities over the next few months, some of which are also opportunities to help others. We also have events planned for the Junior High youth. May 1 – 4 – Yard Sale
We will have a yard sale at Pilar’s house. We are happy to accept any items now and hope to have a silent auction at church during the same weekend. If you have items to donate for the yard sale, please call the office.
God willing, we will be at the National LCMS Youth Gathering in New Orleans, LA in mid July. Please pray for our efforts to bring this large group.
