Confident through Discernment

In Everlasting Man, G.K. Chesterton wrote: "It was said truly enough that human Christianity in its recurrent weakness was sometimes too much wedded to the powers of the world; but if it was wedded it has very often been widowed." Chasing the spirit of the age in order to find a more culturally acceptable way of following Jesus is a losing game. First, because the spirit of the age soon changes. Second, because it leads away from the Spirit of God. In today’s lesson, St. John reminds us that proper discernment helps lead to confident faith.
